Mimosa Pudica, also known as lajjalu in the ancient Ayurvedic practice, has been used for centuries to treat skin disorders, jaundice, cough, and indigestion. It is found in many warm regions of the world, including India, Australia, and parts of America (Ahmad Overview). In the United States, you may have heard the plant called Sensitive Plant, Shame Plant, or Touch Me Not plant, because its leaves are incredibly sensitive and fold up at night, or when handled. This is an intelligent defense mechanism to protect itself from any harm. Mimosa Pudica is in the pea family.
Though Ayurvedic medicine has used parts of the plant for quite some time for its antiasthmatic and analgesic properties (Ahmad Overview), we’ve recently discovered how effective the seeds of the plant can be for killing and binding to parasites.
Mimosa Pudica is very gelatinous, meaning when you swallow its seed in capsule form, the powder expands and changes consistency, becoming jelly-like and sticky. Mimosa Pudica by Microbe Formulas, for example, comes in a veggie capsule that is easily broken down by the body, then releases the gelatinous mixture into the digestive system. Next, the powder expands, scraping along the sides of the intestines, pulling out parasites, toxins, metals, and other invaders that might like to attach to the intestinal walls. While Mimosa Pudica plant is not fat-soluble, the seed is.
